Our last session saw a lot of amusing things happen, but this was one of my favourite events/exchanges. A group of Drow attacked our party, casting Darkness (which prevented even those with Darkvision from seeing anything, and which also rendered this one burning tree pretty much invisible to us), and then shooting us with drug-tipped arrows. It actually took two to force Snotra, our Fighter-Baker dwarf, to pass out, but I didn't want to draw that many dark panels. x'D (there was also an amusing bit where Wendelin collided with the flaming tree, but...yeah) ...Anyway, apparently you don't want to be unconscious around a flesh-eating ghoul.
The last bit was pretty much exactly the RP'd conversation between myself and ~ProlixBlonde once our characters had reunited.
It's a D&D joke, btw. "Dire" animals are extra-vicious and oversize versions of normal animals, but usually applied to dangerous creatures such as wolves, rats, bears, etc.
my wood elf/silver dragon ranger had a dire rat... but the DM gave the rat's personality of a hyper-active yellow lab puppy, it was still obedient but it was really clingy and acted more like a dog (played fetch, loves belly rubs, plays dead) and so possessive that it would 1st hiss/growl then tried to bite other party/group members got too close (like standing next to me)
ya, it's cute untill it starts to dig through the group's food bag for treats; it ate 13 Dwarvish hard tack, 6 chicken legs, 11 cheese wedges, 4 handfuls of wild berries, and almost ate a whole fruit pie (fyi it was apple) before it fell into a food coma (and yes, i do feed it often, but that rat was really hungry and i had no idea why)... so after that incident i made a leather muzzle for when the group rests/camps out.
Reminds me of my old party's first session together a bit. During his turn at watch, the rogue rubbed pepper dust in my character's eyes because I woke him up for his shift with a swift boot to the head.
This game is very fun to run. I have three very greatly detailed characters, wonderful RP interaction, and players who greatly enjoy game. Next week will be fun!
Snotra has a face! Snotra has a face! I like Snotra's face. Thank you, it's pretty close to what I was seeing. Except I always have to edit out the beard - too much Pratchett and Tolkien.
