Halloween Prompt - Nightmares by Inonibird Halloween Prompt - Nightmares by Inonibird
Happy Halloween! :pumpkin: Time for something a little different...

I've suddenly found myself doing art prompts with :iconkatwylder: and :iconevelynbordeaux:, and this first one was pretty simple-- something scary for Halloween.

So I decided to pull out my dream journal and draw a couple of fragmented memories from a few nightmares I've had over the past...what, decade?

Don't ask. Usually my dreams are pretty weird and silly. Occasionally some creepy stuff manifests, it would seem...these were the freakiest entities that could actually be drawn (usually my scary dreams involve less tangible things, like lights that won't turn on when I'm alone in a house at night...shut up, it's scary...)

For the record, that horse-creature is probably the scariest thing I've encountered in a dream. I was wandering around a path in a rather nice garden, minding my own business, but then I heard a noise and THAT THING rounded the corner, staggering in my direction. Ffffffff.

Oh my gosh, this is just amazing art. I really love the horse and the skeleton thing with wings(?). By the way, is the horse-creature copyrighted?

Thanks! And technically no, but who knows if I'll ever use it for something down the road?

No problem, :) It's the truth. So, um, sorry if I'm being too bold but would you mind if the horse-creature was used like in a story or something? Credit would be given of course. If you'd preferred to say no, then I understand. Thank you.

Gah, this doesn't help that the first thing I thought I saw when I look at the man in the top left corner was Slenderman.
Ever since starting Marble Hornets, I don't think I sleep much... :iconslendermanplz:

I actually think the long legged humanoid looks cool.

The horse.... Actually kinda reminds me of the Hookthingy from Toy Story.

The bald smiling man is actually a supernatural figure that a lot of people have reported seeing in their dreams.

Heh, well, he looks nothing like the creep who showed up in my dream. Can't decide if that's good or not, lol.

Well, the basic idea of the story is that a lot of people reported seeing a bald man with a creepy grin that was memorably creepy and unsettling, I don't think it necessarily had to look like that guy. But yeah, lol. Just a fun fact.

Oooh VERY SCARY! I LOVE How freakishly twisted your nightmares are! The Horse thing is definably the freakiest! ..but my fav is the guy with the long boney limbs! & my 2nd fav in this is the skeletal one! My scariest nightmare is one that you would LOVE! It was a Halloween Lockdown at the mall that involved the 9th Doctor! :iconninthdoctorplz: & I wrote it up as a fan-fic! [link] You should totally read it when you have the chance. I wanna write another chapter for it sometime. I should have in time for Halloween this year, but I got to busy ^^; There was also a part in my dream I left out that I plan on putting in chapter 2 (there was a room full of insilation & air conditioning tubes & stuff & there were people in there bound & gagged)

I usually don't see "monsters" in my dreams, the only ones I've encounter so far before that dream are vampires, one was a female vamp who bit me on the neck & the other was a hot male vamp named Louie Von Helson [link] who was from gaiaonline.. & he had sex with me.. well that & maybe ghosts I think I dream more about the more normal looking things because I feel more inclined to believe in things more likely to exist like ghost & vampires possibly being real.. though for some reason animal ghosts come to me more then human ones. (rodents, cats & foxes mainly) I think for me the most scary monsters are the ones that seem most human..

Yeah, I don't have many nightmares with actual monsters in them. It's all intangible stuff... or perfectly normal things that just creep my dream self out for no apparent reason. ... or giant insects... That won't die...

On another note--your subconscious now terrifies me, and... I'm tempted to start keeping a dream journal.

Keeping a dream journal is amazingly fun! But it makes it twice as frustrating when you find you can't remember a dream from the previous night. :shakefist:
I have also had WAY too many dreams about insects, giant or otherwise...couldn't bring myself to draw any of it. ^^;

haha, of course as soon as I say I'm going to keep a dream journal... suddenly I can't remember any of my dreams (except for small, incongruous snatches... like I remember a part of a dream where I was eating lunch with the Queen of England and King Arthur... O_o )

and I don't blame you for not drawing those dreams... at all! D8

Those are some amazingly twisted dreams! The horse with legs actually scares me the most. Not sure why.
I've had my fair share of nightmarish creatures in my dreams, but I can never seem to put an identity to them when I wake up....

He was a fellow who was stalking me in an old house. I kept catching glimpses of him, but the worst bit was when I turned around to face a staircase and saw his hand reach up to grip the top step...and then suddenly he was standing right over me, grinning and advancing while I fell backward and tried crawling away. x_x
I suspect he was inspired by The Gentlemen from BtVS.

Aiee, that sounds deeply unpleasant... definitely seeing the similarity, too. Had you watched that particular episode recently before the dream, or was it one'a those awful ones where something you barely remember suddenly leaps to prominence? =D

It's hard to say, because I don't always say "I watched so-and-so the night before" in my dream journal...SOMEtimes I do, which is always fun to read (usually I say something like, "Why did I watch this before going to bed?!" xD), but in the case of The Gentlemen, it could easily have been either way.

Ahh... I'm kinda the same, hehe. Although often when I watch things that I later think 'why the heck did I watch this before bed?' I often escape a bad dream, at least that night. Maybe it takes a while to filter through, lol.

That horse thing is pretty darn creepy. Also, the one in the bottom left reminds me of The Man with Long Arms from Project Zero (one of the scariest games ever in my opinion). I sure as hell wouldn't want him chasing me; especially up a cliff:fear:

I'm not one for scary stuff, but the horse with human legs is awesome! May I ask what exactly is the skeleton thing, though it looks suspiciously like a combination of a rabbit skeleton and a fairy... don't ask where the fairy came from, something just screams "dead bunny fairy".

lol, I don't know what the heck it is. My dream journal described them as "skeletal beings who bounded and crawled and leapt around on all fours, streaming a grey, gaseous trail". This is what I remember them looking like.
