King Ottokar's Sceptre

Okay. It's not that this is a bad story. It's not that I have any glaring issues with it. Actually...I suppose it IS rather that, because the thing is, I don't have many things to say about it one way or another, good or bad. For as long as I can remember, I've always felt pretty "meh" about Ottokar.

We get our introduction to Syldavia, one of the recurring foreign countries of Hergé's invention. We meet Castafiore, one of my personal favourite characters, and also Boris/Jorgen, one of Tintin's more ruthless adversaries. The plot is rife with political subtext (when you consider that it was written/published in the late 1930's, it becomes that much more clear the sort of historical happenings that were influencing Hergé), and Tintin gets mixed up in the conspiracy quite nicely by the end.

But I've always been a bit bored by this adventure. It never really clicked for me, but neither is it poor. Before I start going around in circles reiterating how good and bad it is and isn't, I'll just finish up this [very] short blurb by saying that the panel/scene I drew, at least, is a pretty iconic moment for me in the Tintin series. I still remember the EXACT music that plays in the cartoon show while he's falling. xD

To be fair, it's solid enough to rank as a "3", but I have to dock half a star for a lifelong stance of "meh". And remember, this is a scale of Tintin to TINTIN!!1!

Again, another more interesting political angle with this. Its based around the Nazi annexation of Austria the Anchluss(forgive me Germany, I do not write or speak your language well). I think it's actually on par with The Blue Lotus as far as satire and inspiration goes.
