Sigh.

Maybe I liked this one more than a kid. I don't remember. All I can do now is shuffle grudgingly through this adventure and...well...sigh.

I also must say, after nearly three weeks of writing these nostalgic little anecdote-laced reviews, I am pretty worn out. I'm also pretty psyched to see the movie TONIGHT (!!!!!), AND I'm not terribly fond of this installment or the next, so I've sort of mentally checked out. :/ I'll try to briefly explain myself, at least.

In a nutshell, I don't like the tone of this Tintin book. It's a bit too far off the deep end for me, between the contrived plot (or is it a parody of a contrived plot? either way, not my cup of tea) and the treatment of the villain Rastapopoulos and the *shudder* aliens. And the art! Oh dear...I always wondered, when I was little, what on Earth happened to everyone's eyebrows in this (and the next) book. I later found out that not everything was drawn by Hergé in his final books, and of course now all I can do is imagine someone going through and adding weird, wiggly eyebrows to Hergé's unfinished drawings (I know that's not how it worked, but...yeah). At any rate, that's just a minor quibble. The plot is more irritating to me. I mean....aliens. There's a lot more to complain about, but..........aliens.

I already mentioned in Shooting Star how I feel about surrealism in Tintin, and the same doubly goes for Flight 714-- no thank you.


_{That said, "MDJRK" is perhaps the best phonetic spelling of an incoherent exclamation in the history of incoherent exclamations. And for whatever reason, I've always liked Dr. Krollspell.}
